Super Eagles don’t need ‘big names’ to dim Lone Star – Dahiru Sadi
A former international, Dahiru Sadi wants fringe Super Eagles to prosecute today’s international friendly match against the Lone Star of Liberia.
The Super Eagles are set to tackle the senior national team of Liberia in Monrovia to celebrate President George Opne Weah, the only Africa to have won the prestigious World Footballer of the year crown.
Although the coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr had listed some of the key players in the team for the friendly match, Sadi wants him to use the match to assess some of the young Eagles.
The former Ranchers Bees star also commended the coach for handing invitation to at least four additional players from the Nigeria Professional Football League.
Apart from Ikechukwu Ezenwa who travelled with the team to Seychelles, the coach extended invitations to Mfon Udoh (Enyimba), Adeleye Olamilekan (FC IfeanyiUbah), Sunday Adetunji (Enyimba) and Ebube Duru (Lobi Stars).
He said the friendly against Liberia which does not have anything at stake apart from prestige should feature young Eagles like Kelechi Nwakali, Henry Onyekuru, Semi Ajayi, Simeon Nwankwo, Samuel Kalu and the invited home boys.
“I know some of these friendly matches come with conditions. They can ask that certain players must be part of the team. If not, I believe this match does not need some of the big players in the team.
“This is a friendly match that should be for the upcoming players who are yet to be tested enough. Players like Kelechi Nwakali, Samuel Kalu and the home lads should form the core of the team against Liberia.
“I am happy that the coach has invited home based players for the match. I believe he will give them the opportunity to play and be assessed by him,” he said.
Sadi maintained that even if the team is dominated by the young Eagles, they will still get a good result against the Lone Star of Liberia.
