Insecurity: Buhari, Security chiefs strategise on new methods
President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday with the security chiefs behind closed door in the Presidential Villa.
Although the agenda for the meeting was not disclosed, the meeting held only few days after Boko Haram insurgents unceremoniously killed a midwife working with the International Committee of the Red Cross, Hauwa Liman.
Among those who participated in the meeting includes the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan Ali; National Security Adviser, Babangana Monguno; Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar; and the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
Recall that Buhari while commiserating with the family of Hauwa Liman, especially her father, said his administration did everything possible to secure her release.
Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, made this known in a statement he released earlier.
While the conversation lasted Buhari was quoted to have told Liman’s father “the federal government did everything possible to save your daughter’s life”.
The President was also quoted to have expressed sadness that all the efforts turned out unsuccessful.
He equally expressed regret that her commitment to helping victims of the Boko Haram insurgency ended in such a brutal way.
He also spoke with Peter Maurer, president of the ICRC, consoling him over the loss of the midwife, lauding the ICRC for the great work it is doing in Nigeria, providing healthcare services to victims of insurgency in some of the most affected areas.
