Man petitions IGP, alleges threat to life

Mr. Jon Lovety Okimba an indigene of Apiapum Community of Obubra Local Government Area in Cross River State of Nigeria has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Kpotun Idris alleging threat to his life and that of his family.

In a petition addressed to the IGP and made available to newsmen in Abuja, Mr. Okimba stated that his life and that of his wife Mrs. Juliet Lovety, children and older brother Mr. Etaba Irek Okimba is under serious threat.

He noted that it all started when Mr. Jonathan Irek Okimba the eldest son of their late father, Mr. Irek Okimba handed over the power of Attorney to administer estate on the 9th day of October 2018 to Mr. Etaba Irek Okimba and him given the fact that he is too sick to take care of it.

Okimba said the action took place in the presence of HRH Mbina Mbina Ajom the 3rd, clan head of Apiapum and Ohorodo of Okum kingdom, Chief James A. Ayabom, head of judiciary Ohorodo Council of Chiefs, Apiapum, and Chief Oguni, Oguni Okpa who is the secretary of Ohorodo Council of Chiefs.

Okimba stated that a copy of power of Attorney and photos were attached for easy reference and the document was scripted and franked by BB Enang Esq, Bassey E. Enang & Co (Eherra Chambers Legal Practitioners, Ikom/Cal /H/Way Apiapum Obubra.

Okimba in the petition narrated how on the 20th October 2018 at about 4.pm staff of the Chief Magistrate Court Apiapum, went to serve Mrs. Christiana Okimba the document, she collected it but later handed it over to her children, as soon as they read it, they descended on court staff whom they gave serious beating.

He named them as, Ogbe Okimba, Okora Okimba, Victoria Okimba, Mary Okimba, Karama Okimba and Enangh Okimba all grandchildren of late Mr. Irek Okimba.

He alleged they belong to a cult group which made them to drag the two court staff to his house and attacked his wife and children.

The petitioner informed that all effort by the Chiefs to settle the matter proved abortive as they the attackers refused to honour the invitations of these chiefs till date.

Okimba who also copied Director-General of SSS, Chief Justice of the Federation and Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 6, Calabar prayed the IGP Ibrahim Kpotun Idris to use his good office to ensure justice by directing full investigation into the matter as his life and his household is in danger making him to be in constant hiding.
