Bribery video: Shun fifth columnists, CSO urges PMB

By Dominion Ugwu

President Muhammadu Buhari’s government has performed creditably-well in its avowed crusade to fight Corruption, as we speak two former state governors are in prison following their indictment over corruption charges. His total commitment to eradicating corruption in Nigeria has won him international acclaim.

It therefore beggars belief when self –acclaimed anti-corruption crusaders like the Socio- Economic Rights & Accountability Projects (SERAP) curry public opinion by going to court compelling the President to order the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice of the Federation Abubakar Malami to direct the investigation of the allegations of bribery leveled against governor Ganduje by an online newspaper publisher, Jafaar Jafaar as contained in video clips allegedly showing the governor receiving bribe.

In a press statement made available to journalists in Lagos by a pressure group, Peace and Anti-Corruption Advocacy and signed by the national coordinator, Comrade James Okoronkwo, it urged President Muhammadu Buhari to shun the request of SERAP as it was borne out of malice, mischief, vendetta and self-aggrandizement.

Furthermore, the group stated that the so-called bribery video clips are the handiwork of a notorious blackmailer with an axe to grind with the transparent governor whose scorecard is superlative and unbeatable in annals of development in Nigeria.

They noted that the ‘video clips were politically- motivated and orchestrated by the enemies of the APC government to malign the mercurial governor of Kano State whose financial wizardry was put into play during the economic recession when most state governors were unable to run the affairs of their state. It is noteworthy that The Ganduje Administration was able to pay workers salary during those parlous times’.

Finally, the group urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to rest on his oars as he battles corruption and their cohorts like SERAP.
