The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has confirmed an All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain, Gen. JOJ Okoloagu (Rtd) and President Muhammadu Buhari’s Campaign Spokesperson, Bar. Festus Keyamo as members of the Board of Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).
The upper legislative chamber also Wednesday confirmed Ronke Sokefun as Chairman and Garba Bello, Mustapha Mudashiru and Adewale Adeleke as members of the corporation.
One other nominee, Garba Buba, was, however, not confirmed because he did not show up for screening exercise.
Recall that Buhari had on May 8 sent a letter to Senate seeking confirmation of the appointment of Okoloagu and other nominees.
Okoloagu is a member of Board of Trustees (BoT) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okoloagu’s confirmation was made after the Senate considered and adopted the report of its committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions.
Rafiu Ibrahim (PDP-Kwara), who presented the report, said Okoloagu and the other nominees were cleared by the Code of Conduct Bureau.
He also said after screening, that Okoloagu and other nominees were discovered to be resourceful, diligent, articulate, and competent, have the knowledge to work in the positions for which they were nominated and also possess the needed value in the operations of the board of the NDIC.
