COCMEGG COMMENDS THE MANAGEMENT OF NSCDC FOR THE STRATEGIC TURN AROUND OF KASTINA INSTITUTE OF DISASTER MANAGEMENT
With less than few weeks to the 2019 General Elections in
country, and in view of the avowed determination of the management of Nigeria
Security and Civil Defense Corps(NSCDC) to its constitutional mandate of the
protection of critical national assets and its preparedness and strategic
deployment of personnel for the security of lives and property to curb the
menace of hoodlums and vandals, the Commandant General of Nigeria Security and
Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu paid a working visit to
the North East Zone to have a firsthand assessment of the preparedness of the rank and file of NSCDC as
well as visited the Katsina Institute of Disaster Management preparatory to the
deployment of 5000 Agro-Rangers designed to protect farmers and their
investments from incessant attacks by bandits/criminals especially kidnappers
and the rebranding of the institute to meet with international standards.
in a press release jointly signed by the President, Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele, and
Secretary, Comrade James Okoronkwo, respectively they applauded the courageous initiative
of the CG to visit the various commands
in the North East zone in preparation of
the forth coming general elections and also the strategic upgrade and
turnaround of the Katsina Institute of Disaster Management that encompasses up-
to- date e-learning facilities like, e-library, internet facilities , state of
the art hostels, pavilion ( quarter guard), sporting facilities and social facilities to boost the morale of
personnel so as to make it more conducive for trainees. The visit indeed
boosted the morale of the operatives and the institute management staff and
encouraged them to always put in their best in their national assignments
particularly in the safe guide of lives and property and protection of national
assets.
According to the duo, the NSCDC helmsman used the august
occasion to admonish personnel, motivate and sensitize them towards the
peaceful and transparent conduct of the 2019 General Elections, to be
disciplined, patriotic and discharge their duties without fear or favour and gave
a fatherly advice to the 5,000 Agro Rangers that are deployed to provide
security to investments in the agricultural sector for both domestic and
international businesses, provide physical security to the proposed 250 Cattle
Ranches by the Federal Government as well as also provide security to farmers /
herdsmen so as to reduce the incessant clashes during this period.
While responding, the Acting Provost of the Katsina
Institute of Disaster Management, Commandant Muhammadu Abubakar, used the
occasion to commend the CG for his transformational leadership, transparency,
selflessness and patriotic disposition
in spite the paucity funds, noting
that enormous funds has been expended on the world class Institute that
can now compete internationally in terms of learning/social infrastructures, capacity building and the
training of first class security
operatives for the Agro-allied sector in Nigeria. He added: “that since the
assumption of office of the present CG a lot of resources has been disbursed
and expended to bring the institute to its current enviable standard and I want
to use this opportunity to pledge our support, commitment and unalloyed loyalty
to the management of NSCDC and Federal Republic of Nigeria to boost the welfare
and manpower development of the rank and file”.
The Commandant General also paid a scheduled visit to the
State Commandant, Muazu Alhassan and reiterated the need for thorough
professionalism from officers and men during the fourth coming general
elections and sounded a note of warning to officers to be impartial at all
times, provide adequate security to voters, INEC officers, all Ad-hoc staffs,
elections monitors/observers both local and international before, during and
after the elections and sensitized them on the need to also be vigilant and
watchful so as to rid the state of
bandits, street urchins and vandals targeting at critical national
assets spread across the state.
He reminded them of the Federal Government’s resolve to
ensure free, fair and credible elections devoid of rancor and violence and
pledged to support the state commands with the necessary equipment and urged
the personnel to remain good ambassadors of the Corps, incorruptible and
attuned to international best practices of security.
Finally, the CG charged all the NSCDC formations across the
country to remain focused to the task ahead promising them of the deployment of
necessary equipment and resources to enhance their capabilities and urging them
to work harmoniously with sister security agencies deployed for the forth
coming general elections in the country.
