US will never succeed playing Hong Kong card

Some
U.S. politicians have lost their mind by relating China’s domestic affairs to
China-U.S. bilateral economic and trade consultations, which revealed their
evil intension to contain China by throwing Hong Kong into turmoil.
Acting
like backseat drivers, they made frequent remarks on Hong Kong, and wantonly
interfered with China’s domestic affairs, saying “It will be much harder for us
to make a deal if something violent happens in Hong Kong.”
However,
they totally miscalculated, as China will by no means trade matters of
principles or allow foreign interference in Hong Kong affairs.
Washington
has hit the wall every time after it escalated its trade friction with China,
and is facing broad opposition both domestically and internationally. And this
time, some U.S. politicians are making new troubles out of the Hong Kong affairs.
“President
Trump has shifted his stance on the unrest in Hong Kong in recent days to show
greater solidarity with the pro-democracy protesters after coming to view the
issue as a point of leverage in trade negotiations with China,” said New York Times in an article it recently
published.
However, these
U.S. politicians shall be reminded that China never compromises on its
sovereignty - a bottom line of the country’s diplomacy that will never be
overstepped.
It
is totally wishful thinking that these politicians are imagining the world’s second
largest economy to trade its sovereignty with the US. It proves that they have
brought their bodies to the 21st century but left their brains in the old
times.
After
its return to the motherland, Hong Kong has constantly consolidated its position
as an international
financial, shipping and trading center, and has been rated by many global
institutions as one of the freest economies and one of the most competitive
regions in the world.
For
Hong Kong, the “one country, two systems” principle
is its greatest strength. By integrating its own development into the
big picture of the national development of China, joining the
construction of the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI), and implementing the
Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area plan, Hong Kong will guarantee its
long-term prosperity and stability, as well as a brighter future.
Turning
a blind eye to the violent practices of the radical protesters and even teaming
up with those criminals, the U.S. politicians have exposed their evil intention
to mess up Hong Kong so as to hamper the development of China.
An
ancient Chinese strategist Guan Zi once wrote, “Nothing is more beneficial than
stability, and nothing is more detrimental than chaos.”
At
the moment when the world economy is faced with increasing downward pressure
and discouraged market, the U.S. malicious attempt to cause disturbances in
Hong Kong and undermine the prosperity and stability there will only harm China
without benefiting the U.S. Besides, it will also aggravate fluctuations and
uncertainties of the global economy.
Such
practices would certainly incur strong disagreement among the international
community and all Chinese people including Hong Kong compatriots.
Cooperation
is better than confrontation, and consultation better than pressure.
Coming
so far in the economic and trade frictions, China has always stayed rational
and exercised restraints, despite the repeated provocation from the U.S.
China
is determined to safeguard and defend the core interests of the country and the
fundamental interests of its people, and will never compromise on major issues
of principle.
Hong
Kong is a special administrative region of China, and Hong Kong affairs are beyond
all question domestic affairs of China that are never allowed to be interfered
by any foreign country, organization or individuals.
Deliberately
mixing Hong Kong affairs with China-U.S. trade, the U.S. has underestimated
China’s resolve and capability to safeguard its legitimate interests.
As
Chinese President Xi Jinping has said, “Chinese people do not believe in
fallacies, but we are not afraid of them; we do not make trouble, but we are
not afraid of it. No country should entertain the fantasy that China will allow
its sovereignty, security, and development interests to be infringed upon.”
Chinese
economy is not a small pond, but a vast ocean. It has enough room, resilience,
strength, and capability to withstand any storm. It must be clear that China
had not and will not make any unprincipled concession on China-U.S. economic and
trade relations.
China
has complete confidence to restore order in Hong Kong by drawing strength from
the “one country, two systems” principle. It is also believed that Hong Kong
will surely make a fresh start on its course of development and continue to
shine in the international arena as the “Pearl of the Orient”.
The
attempt to use Hong Kong as a bargaining chip to make a deal is nothing but daydream. Some U.S. politicians had better
come to their senses, understand the real situation and pull back before going
too far on the wrong path.
