Group calls for the resignation of PDP BoT Chair over zoning comment
By Kunle Ilyasu
An interest group, National Democratic Movement has called
on the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the main opposition Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) Sen. Walid Jubrin to resign his position over his
comment on zoning the 2023 presidency.
The group in a communiqué reached after their meeting in
Abuja at the weekend and signed by the trio of Deacon Wale Adegoke, President,
Engr. Abdulahi Musa, Secretary and Chief Antony Ijele, Treasurer noted that
rather than commit himself to a genuine path of zoning the presidency of the
party to the South come 2023 general elections, Jubrin spoke from both sides of
his mouth with a vague declaration that the ticket is open to all the geo
political zones of the country.
The group strongly viewed the statement credited to him as
hollow enticement and time buying tactics to perverse the course of democracy
and justice.
They, therefore, urged Sen. Jubrin to resign from the BOT
Chairmanship of the party forthwith, failure of which they will mobilize
members and cadres of the party to embark on 10,000 Man march against his
continuation in office.
They vowed to deploy every lawful means at their disposal to
uproot him, restore sanity, trust and confidence among the members of the party
in line with the vision of the founding fathers.
The group noted that as a political party that believes in
popular participation, PDP has credible and patriotic leaders within the party
ranging from former Presidents, Governors, Senator and men of goodwill to serve
as an alternative replacement.
“The National Democratic Movement have been in the fore
front of mass mobilization and political engineering of the members of the PDP
and consists of several groups and credible individuals in various parts of the
country, working towards the consolidation of the PDP at all levels of
democratic governance, constituency cultivation, dousing inter- religious and
inter- ethnic tensions”.
