Corona virus: AANI President urges precautionary measures, hails FG effort

Against the backdrop of the Covid-19 (corona virus) global health threat and the subsequent social restriction orders imposed by governments at all levels, to enable its containment, the President of Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) and former Inspector General of Police, Mr. M D Abubakar has urged Nigerians to embrace precautionary measures against the deadly virus.
While urging his members and Nigerians to observe the warnings from health authorities on how to stay safe, Abubakar hailed Federal Government on the measures put so far towards curtailing Covid-19 spread.
In a press statement released in Abuja yesterday and signed by AANI’s Publicity Secretary, Dr.Ogbonna Onyeisi, it quoted Mr. Abubakar calling all members of AANI and Nigerians as well to take preventive measures against the virus.
His words, “Dear distinguished colleagues, Exco members, Chapter Chairmen and Committee Chairmen, as your president, I kindly appeal to you all to take necessary precautionary measures to protect yourself your loved ones especially the elderly and children from the Coronavirus''.

Continuing, Abubakar who showed concern on what the situation has become given the fact that some people have been affected with one life lost, expressed optimism that Nigeria will overcome this challenge with the people observing the right attitude to health.   
He also announced the suspension of all AANI’s activities for two weeks starting from 24th of March 2020.

“In view of the of situation of things in Nigeria and the world on the Corona virus pandemic, AANI will from today being 24th March, 2020 suspend all meetings, gathering of any nature be it chapter meetings, committee meetings, social ceremonies, workshops, conferences and seminars for the next two weeks while assisting and supporting both federal, states governments and other health organizations to fight the Coronavirus disease to achieve a healthy society”.

'' I seek for your understanding and support as together we should make our society better. 
Thank you all and remain blessed'' the statement noted.  

AANI President also commiserates with the Federal Government and the families of soldiers who lost their lives while serving the nation.
“On behalf of the exco members and distinguished colleagues, AANI commiserates with the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of The Federal Republic of Nigeria and with the families of 47 soldiers who died in an ambush last week.
“May almighty grant their souls internal rest Amin ya rabbi'' he concluded.
