Zamfara Polls: Coalition wants Supreme Court declare APC candidates winner
By Kunle Ilyasu
Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Transparency and Good Governance has prayed the Supreme Court to set aside the prior Consequential Order issued in respect of the Zamfara State polls and instead declare the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidates defacto and dejure winners of the Governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly polls.
In a press conference addressed in Abuja yesterday by Dr. Manzo Abubakar and Amb. Muhammad Bn Ahmad, National Coordinator and Secretary General respectively, it noted that the intra-Party crisis in the APC had nothing to do with the People Democratic Party (PDP) and wondered why the court decided to award votes legally cast for APC to the opposition.
Manzo stated that the call became necessary in order for people to view Supreme Court as the last hope of the masses; and to ensure fairness, equity and justice.
“We equally wish to state that it was unthinkable that all the Senatorial seats, House of Representatives and those of the State Assembly were unopposed for APC members and therefore required no primary given that all the disparate tendencies in the APC sumptuously collaborated to midwife the victors. So why should the apex court award these seats to the PDP?
The group held that the apex court can do the needful by giving justice to whom justice is due being aware that people in Zamfara State are overwhelming APC.
“Accordingly, having legally been on the ballot during the poll, it will be delightful and in tandem with the letter and the spirit of the law if the apex court reconsiders its earlier stand and procedurally restores the wishes of the Zamfara people as expressed through the plurality of votes cast for the APC” Manzo stated.
