The President of the Alumni
Association of National Institute (AANI) and former Inspector-General of Police,
Mr. MD Abubakar has felicitated with Christians in Nigeria and all over the
world as they celebrate Easter which ends the Christian holy week calendar.
The President of the nation's
foremost think tank urges Christians to use the moment of Easter for sober
reflection and positive action by praying for the people of Nigeria and
humanity in this period of Covid-19 pandemic.
This was contained in a statement
released by the association in Abuja and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Dr.
Ogbonna Onyeisi.
The statement noted that Mr.
Abubakar wished Christian faithful and all Nigerians a happy Easter celebration
hoping that the significance of Easter will help us to rise above our immediate
national challenges.
The former nation’s police boss said
that AANI wishes to identify and collaborate with Federal Governments, state
governments and other Nigerians to support Nigerians affected by the lockdown
directives to contain the Covid-19 spread.
According the statement, “Following
the FG directives, AANI President last week mobilized AANI members in medical
fields to assist in isolation centers and help in the treatment of those
affected by the virus. Many of AANI members are already engaged in Lagos and
Abuja” the statement read in part.
It informed that AANI has also
developed jingles in major Nigeria languages, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba to
sensitize citizens about the Covid-19 Pandemic with the aim to stem the tide.
Recall that AANI President had on
April 8, 2020 set up committee to support vulnerable Nigerians in Abuja, Lagos,
and Ogun, cities that Federal Government of Nigeria has issued directive for
lockdown with the aim to contain the spread of the virus.
The AANI Covid-19 committee under
the Chairmanship of Hajiya Aisha Dankani, the Vice President of AANI has
nine other members.
Among other things, they were to
liaise with good spirited AANI members to raise funds and reach the vulnerable
in our society as a means of supporting the governments and contributing to a
better society.
