2019: Enugu APC Guber hopeful, Ugwu wants disqualification reversed

The only disqualified All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship aspirant in Enugu State, Bar. Ejikeme Ugwu has appealed to the National leadership of the ruling party to reverse his disqualification by the Governorship Screening Committee of All Progressives Congress to ensure equity, justice and fair play to all concerned.

Ugwu said it will be in line with the philosophy of the party’s leadership since the party stood for equity and fair play.

In a list published by the party last night through Channels TV, Barrister Ugwu was the only aspirant out of the six that was disqualified without any stated reason.

In his letter of appeal addressed to the National Chairman, Comrade Adam Oshomole, which was cited in Abuja, Barrister Ugwu said that no reason was adduced for his disqualification.

According to him, “I joined our great party in 2014 and by November, 2014 I became the flagbearer of our great party in Igbo Etiti/Uzo Uwani Federal Constituency for the House of Representative having fulfilled all the requirements including financial obligations”.

He further said that, “I have never been indicted by any Panel of Enquiry or found guilty by any Court of competent jurisdiction. I have no pending Criminal case in any court in Nigeria and outside Nigeria and there is no on-going investigation against me before the EFCC, ICPC or/and any security agencies”.

Barrister Ugwu also said that his certificates are all genuine and intact and therefore wondered why such a decision against him.

According to him, “I have spent time and resources working hard for a strong and virile party in Enugu State capable of winning elections. I will not be mistaken to say that I have carried the cross for the Party in my state. I am still in dismay as to the reason for my non clearance having to the best of my knowledge satisfied all statutory requirements of our great Party’s Constitution, Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

He therefore requested that the APC National chairman uses his good office to reverse his disqualification having satisfied all the statutory requirements both in character and otherwise, believing that justice will be done to his case.

Investigations by our reporter revealed that the hatched job of disqualifying Barrister Ejike Ugwu was to make way for a preferred aspirant by some persons in the APC from Enugu state as to brighten the chances of the emergence of a particular aspirant.

We may also recall that the Enugu State chapter of the APC has been in crises with two factions, each laying claims to the leadership of the party in the state. The APC Governorship Primaries comes up on Sunday nationwide.
